And we are here as ardent supporters of raw food, or ‘fotinofagia’, to journey with you, share our insights, experiences, recipes and to ‘rawganise’ adventures, especially with those living in or close to Cyprus.
What is RAW?
Some raw foodists don’t like the word, but we’ve actually come to like it. It’s earthy, sexy, powerful and a good pun with roar – which is sometimes how eating fresh uncooked vegan food makes you feel. Rawring with zest for life! As for the Greek word, ‘omofagia’ ...hmmm… sounds a little cannibalistic. We prefer the term ‘fotinofagia which roughly translates into ‘ eating light-filled food’. And that’s what it is all about: Eating foods that are pulsing with life force, with sparkle, with starlight.
Why starlight?
Well…if such food is filled with the sun’s light intact because it hasn’t been heated above 48 C (100F) and the sun is a star, then… you are eating starlight! How lovely is that! And did you know that when you cook a food over this temperature, 100% of its enzymes are destroyed – and enzymes are what you need if your body is going to convert nutrients into energy and new cell material.
